Monthly Meeting FAQ

The Strait Turner club is an inclusive space for any person interested in woodturning. We aspire to enhance each member’s woodturning experience and aspirations wherever they are on the woodturning journey while providing an enjoyable supportive environment that promotes safety, skill and creativity. Our vision is to promote the art and craft of woodturning, fostering a sense of community, mutual support and social connection among woodturners by providing educational opportunities for members and the community. We hope to encourage new generations of turners who will carry the craft forward into the future.

If you are interested in learning more about our club and its activities, we welcome guests and prospective members to attend one of our monthly meetings. It’s a great way to get to know us and to learn more about our offerings. Please feel free to Contact Us with any further questions.

When and where do you meet?

Meetings are held the third Saturday of each month, typically from 10:00 AM - 1:30 PM at the Gardiner Community Center and/or via Zoom. Visit our Event Calendar for more details.

Can I attend a monthly meeting even if I am not a member?

Guests and prospective members are welcome to attend a club meeting to learn more about our club and activities. Please join us in person at the Gardiner Community Center or Contact Us to request a monthly meeting Zoom link.

What is your meeting format?

10:00 - 10:30 AM: Social time and set up
10:30 - 11:00 AM: Announcements; Introductions; Welcome new members and guests; Show and Tell; Wood raffle; Refreshments
11:00 AM - 1:30 PM: Woodturning demonstration

What equipment is used?

During in-person events, the club’s equipment is set up at the meeting venue. The club's program director coordinates use of the club’s lathes, grinders, lighting, A/V, and miscellaneous equipment to support all demonstrations. Demonstrators will typically bring one or more of their own tools, supplies, and a portfolio of slides/pictures.

What is Show and Tell like?

Members are encouraged to share a newly-turned piece at meetings. It’s an opportunity to both showcase member work and to receive feedback from others. Pieces are photographed by our club photographer and published on the club’s Show and Tell page.

Are refreshments available at events?

Yes. Refreshments include an assortment of snacks donated by members.

Do you sell any woodturning materials?

In addition to opportunities to purchase wood in the Wood Auction, wood sealer is sold by the club's treasurer to members. All proceeds go to support our club activities.

Do you wear name tags at in-person meetings?

We do! We find it’s a great way to get to know each other. You’ll see a name tag table with tags available for members to wear.

I really liked your meeting. How do I join your club?

Prospective members can join our club online. Membership dues are $30 per year for a family membership and are used to support our club activities. If you have questions or would prefer to pay dues by check via US Postal Service, please contact our treasurer or at a meeting.

I need accommodations for the meeting.

Please Contact Us if you require any additional audio, visual, or seating accommodation for the meeting.
